Myth #1: Your web site can be penalized by search engines for using techniques that search engines consider “unethical” or untrustworthy.

The truth: Technically, there is no such thing as ” penalization” or “penalty” when it comes to search engines.gov and .edu sites are not included in search engine databases. It’s true that many people are trying to trick the search engines into giving them higher rankings, but if that’s the case than the search engines will wise up andlers them, and they will ban those sites from their databases. The best way to get traffic to your site is to get it from credible sources.

Top rankings in search engines are achieved by properly optimizing a web site and to lead the crawlers to that site, providing good content, and by getting backlinks from other respected sites.

Myth #3: A web site domain name which includes the search term will rank high naturally.

The Truth: Competent SEO professionals are able to get a good domain name, that is optimized to gain the attention of the search engines, and that domain name has the search term within it. It’s a matter of chance and not quality of name.

Myth #4: You should choose a keyword-rich domain name.

The Truth: You should use as many keywords in the domain name as possible (there are no limitations), but avoid choosing a long domain name with garbage in it (most likely movie rental or video store domains). Short domain names may seem to be more familiar and easier to remember, but it’s nothing more than a vain attempt to rank high for a short phrase.

Myth #5: It’s better to have my URL from a.com than.net or .org.

The Truth: Personally I think it’s a waste of time to have to buy domains. The search engines, along with other traffic sites prefer to find your site through one or more of the major search engines, not through any of the announced domains. domains only offer a link farm for search engines.

Myth #6: Linking to other sites from my site will increase my search engine rankings.

The Truth: This is yet another technique of the previous myths you must reject. The truth is that you get strong value inbound links from other websites with relatively few outbound links, when you practice building links naturally. Long time ago, the majority of links were built artificially.
